Shakin' Like a Sinner on Judgement Day
New album art for rockabilly combo Mental Shakedown outta Germany (via Finland). The front cover was originally drawn for their demo a couple of years ago, chopped'n'channeled for new life in vinyl and CD form this year. Also did the design for the back of the sleeve. I think this is the first sleeve I've done where I did all the art; layouts for the LP and CD packages, label art, even rendered the Bop'n'Destroy Records logo. The LP and CD should be out in the early part of next year so add 'em to your Must Buy list and... Stay tuned for MORE BOPPIN' ACTION!

Sauvage!
New art for hip Spanish comix zine Palmeras y Puros. The upcoming issue features a load of guest artists with drawings on the theme of tropical island rock'n'roll, from which the above drawing is my contribution. There's new work by the regular P&P artists plus an exclusive tell-all interview with yours truly featuring 2 previously unseen drawings of a rather scandalous nature. Should be a pretty fun package of scribbling so you may wanna grab yerself a copy. Check in with P&P at their Facebook page and... Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Forgotten Horrors
Coupla things I finished 6 months or so ago and forgot to post here. These were both half-penciled drawings that were hanging around for at least 10 years before I got around to polishing them off, Nice to finally have 'em finished, only about 800 more such half-penciled projects to go now. Stay tuned for MORE ANTIQUATED ACTION!

New T-shirt art for Winnipeg's art/indie/cult movie palace Cinematheque. Nice thing about this one is that it features my usual monstrous style but came out looking kinda different from my other work. Thanx to Jaimz and the Cinematheque crew for throwing this fun gig my way. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

SCUM!
Here's another moldy oldie from my early fanzine/minicomic days. Pretty sure this was printed in my zine Hip Teen but I haven't looked at those recently enough to say for sure. Looking at this old stuff is pretty annoying these days; a lot of it is close to being actually good but just doesn't quite make it. It's good for a laugh anyway, which I guess was the original point so what the heck? Stay tuned for MORE ARCHAIC ACTION!

Record Riot!
Couple brand new 7"ers in stores now: The Unreleasables 6-song EP on Creatures Of The Night Records outta the UK and Richie Ramone's "I Fix This" 45 on Outro Records from the good old USA. A coupla fine old-style punk records unfortunately marred by more of that tasteless Merinuk sleeve art. Both drawings are repurposed oldies; the brain art was originally drawn as a cover for a Queers tribute CD back in the '90s sometime and the Richie art was a poster for a show he did in Hamilton, Ontario a few years back. Both were newly kustomized for rekkid sleeve use. More new/old stuff comin' soon so keep them eyeballs in high gear, kiddies. Stay tuned for MORE 7 INCHES OF PLEASURE ACTION!

Routes 666
Apocalyptic new poster for the upcoming Spain/Portugal tour of Japanese garage combo The Routes. This is an adaptation of Pieter Bruegel the Elder's famous painting "The Triumph of Death", stripped down and hopped up for teenage action. I'm a big fan of Bruegel's so this was fun to do. Remember, it's not a ripoff, it's a TRIBUTE! I'll post an updated version with the tour dates once they're finalized. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Tales Too Terrible To Tell
Here are a couple of 1 page filler strips I did for Tales Too Terrible To tell, published by New England Comics way back in 1992. TTTTT was the first comic to mine the vast terrain of public domain 1950s horror comics which has become a cottage industry for some folks in recent years. "Fear-Filled Facts" was a "Ripley's Believe It or Not" parody with a horror twist; I wrote and drew 2 of 'em, one of which was not used. Title lettering in the first strip by NEC editor Bob "The Crippler" Polio. Sorry if the text is hard to read, that's 25 year old rubber cement rotting merrily away. I don't remember why the second strip (below) wasn't published and I've lost track of the script somewhere along the line so the art is all you get for that one. Stay tuned for MORE FEAR-FILLED (F) ACTION!

Freaky Flashback
Here's a drawing I did back in 1993 for Spanish zine De Plastico Guay. It's pretty badly drawn but has a sort of primitive charm, I suppose. Stay tuned for MORE FREAKY ACTION!

Rock Super Action!
Poster for an upcoming benefit show for veteran Vancouver rocker Jay Millette from the Black Halos, Spitfires, etc who lost everything in a fire recently. Here's hoping this show will give him a boost and help him get back on his feet. Wanted to do something fun and upbeat for the poster and somehow or other this led me into the realm of Wayne Boring, Dick Sprang and Pop Art superherodom in general. Stay tuned for MORE APPROVED BY THE COMICS CODE ACTION!

Miscellaneous Esoterica
Coupla items from the archives for ya today. Above is some art I did for a benefit show poster back in 2003. The poster version had a head pasted onto the golfer but I kinda like this version better because it's more arcane. Below are a couple of logos I did for my late pal Alan Wright's rock'n'roll zine Cryptic Tymes in 1993. CT was one of the Big 3 Canadian garage rock zines at the time, along with What Wave and Feline Frenzy. Stay tuned for MORE ACTION!

Profiles In Protuberancy #153
Another new/old drawing, penciled in 2007 and inked/colored in February, 2017. "What a repugnant protuberance!" was a slogan I used to randomly toss into conversations when things got dull and the expression eventually inspired this drawing. Your guess is as good as mine as far as the meaning of this piece (if any) is concerned but I think an old favorite quotation of mine probably has some relevance: "How glorious it is, and also how painful, to be an exception."- Alfred de Musset.

B.I.G. Time
Here's a most ancient illustration I did way back in 1994 for a planned monster magazine that never came out. It's based on the wacky '50s movies of Bert I. Gordon, master of cheapo B&W spectacle and cheesy special FX. Featuring famed actor and drunkard Lon Chaney, Jr and mostly inspired by "The Cyclops" from 1957 (but if you look close there's lots of other B.I.G. references crammed in). I was happily picturing a Jack Davis-style career drawing for monster mags for myself while working on this but it wasn't to be. Thanks to David Lindsay for finding and returning the original art recently and commissioning this furshlugginer thing in the first place. I think there's already a scan of this somewhere in the archives of this blog but that one was scanned from a mediocre photocopy; here it is scanned from the original art for the first time. Stay tuned for MORE CYCLOPIAN ACTION!

Pagan, Baby
Here's the front and back art for the new CD by Los Paganos Del Ritmo, a combo that Texas rockabilly maniac Mack Stevens put together with some cats from Buenos Aires to play a mix of the kinda off the cuff, rockin' blues/'billy/country-fried ditties he writes so well. The album's out now on Part Records outta Germany and ought to hit the spot if you got a taste for rootsy gunk with a sneakin' psychotic edge to it. I made the art for this at LP size even though it was gonna be shrunk way down, so here are full size versions, with the back art stripped of all the text and logos that were added to the print version. Stay tuned for MORE ROAD TO PERDITION ACTION!

Monster Mash Party
Just scanned from the original art for the first time, here's a poster I did in 1993 for a 2 day garage rock fest put on by German label Screaming Apple Records. There used to be a Screaming Apple logo pasted to this art but I guess it fell off sometime in the 24 years since I drew this thing. I was trying to make a name for myself as a monster/rock'n'roll artist at the time so I was packing as much detail as I could into each piece. Looking back on work I was doing back then, a lot of it seems overly cluttered but this one holds up fairly well I think. Nice lineup of bands, wish I'd been able to make it over and see these shows. New stuff coming soon, so... Stay tuned for MORE GRAVEYARD SMASHIN' ACTION!
